Blind River Mayor Sally Hagman addressed the many community events that took place in the town over the summer months.

“It seems like yesterday that we were greeting summer and here we are with our students returning to school.  For the staff at your Town of Blind River, the summer was very busy and when I reflect back to my calendar, we had the Canada Day Celebrations, the Public Information Session, Community Days Weekend, the Pow Wow, the Drag Races in Elliot Lake which I am embarrassed to say that I lost but I do have this lovely picture of Mayor Marchisella with the trophy,” she said in her address to council. “I keep this picture in my office as a reminder that I need to put more lead in my foot next year,”

“Then there were the North Channel sailing races as well as the 150 cyclists; both groups were entertained with Blind River hospitality. The Rotary are to be commended for organizing the Concerts by the River and Bubbles for Polio Events!  We can be proud of our staff and the many volunteers who work as champions to make Blind River strong,” she added.

“In August Deputy Mayor Paula Summers and I travelled to Ottawa for the AMO conference. There were over 2,000 in attendance and an excellent opportunity to network with our peers,” she said of the AMO conference. “Innovation is the word of the future and we are looking forward to moving on some exciting changes for our community.”

“The Metis Nation of Ontario held their AGM in Sault Ste. Marie on Aug. 22 and I took part in a ceremonial paddle down the St. Mary’s river along with Minister Carolyn Bennett, Minister for Crown Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs,” the mayor noted.

“The Blind River Horticultural Society celebrated 90 years of service to this community on Sunday Aug. 25,” she said of the milestone. “Imagine beginning a beautification project for Blind River that started back in 1929 and has withstood the test of time.  All our members can be congratulated on planting the seeds and filling Blind River with flowers and beauty.”

“On Aug. 29 I travelled to Toronto where the female Mayors of Ontario had the opportunity to meet with the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario as well as the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister of International Development & Minister for Women and Gender Equality.”
