Blind River Councillor Steven Wells gave council a notice of motion regarding the marina operation at the council meeting on June 17.

In his motion, Coun. Wells is calling for monthly reports on the marina operation from Karen Bittner the town’s director of facilities and community service. The facility has been identified as a “key asset” in the Blind River Economic Development Action Plan.

Council recently approved the relocation of items from the Timber Village Museum after the museum building was identified as unuseable due to the state of the building. Concerns were raised about safety for museum employees and that it was not accessible for those with disabilities. Also moved from the museum was the art gallery. Both the museum and gallery are now located in the marina building.

Coun. Wells wants to see monthly reports including the number of boaters using the marina, number of transient boaters, the number of overnight campers and the number of recreational vehicles using the marina during the peak summer months.

He is expected to bring his motion to council at its July 8 meeting for discussion.
