Blind River’s director of facilities and community services Karen Bittner outlined marine park upgrades that will move ahead after the town received a FedNor grant of $155,000.

In her report to council for its Monday evening meeting, Bittner said the work will be completed by September this year.

“The Blind River Marine Park project was chosen due to its progressive goals. This comprehensive project is designed to stimulate private investment, job creation, and overall community development,” she said. “Updates are strategized to impact our users as little as possible. Where there may be minor inconveniences at the site this summer, future benefits far outweigh these challenges.”

The projects include removal of the wind tower and fencing which will be replaced by the creation of a fully accessible gazebo, leveling and installation of a new boardwalk, mobile phone charging stations for visitors to the marina either by boat or trail and road access, the addition of trilingual and directional signage and enhanced social media promotion.

It will also provide a safe, inclusive environment that welcomes locals, tourists, and newcomers, Bittner noted.

“These building developments will act as a stimulus to contractors,” she added in her report.

Bittner and staff has been successful in securing several grants for the community in the past two months including the FedNor grant, a $5,400 firefighter training grant and a $30,000 grant from the Toronto Blue Jays foundation for town ball park improvements
