Five candidates will vie for a seat on Blind River council to fill the vacancy left with the death of Coun. Clifford Spratt in August. The councillor died of cancer. He was serving his second term on council.

The five candidates put forward their names to fill the vacancy by an August 28 deadline.

Looking to fill the position are Robert Ambeault, Joshua Brown, Marcel Jacques, Jennifer Posteraro and Alex Solomon.

The candidates are set to make a public presentation to council at a special meeting on Sept. 11 at 4 p.m. They have been given up to 10 minutes to make their presentation.

A replacement for the seat will be chosen after the presentations, according to the mayor.

Mayor Sally Hagman, in her address to council Tuesday evening, noted she attended a recent service for the councillor

“Last Saturday, a final tribute was given to Councillor Clifford Spratt at a celebration of his life,” she said.
