A $30,000 donation for Blind River from the Jays Care Foundation, a charitable arm of the Toronto Blue Jays was received in a report to council at its Monday evening virtual meeting from the town’s director of facilities and community services Karen Bittner.

The donation announced last week will see the town cut a four-year planned works program to one year with all work being done this year. It will also mean that money set aside by the town for the ballpark upgrades will go to other projects in Blind River.

The upgrades include replacement of fencing, installation of dugouts, benches to be installed in the near future, and signage to highlight all groups who presented funding. Also planned is a restroom for the diamonds when provincial pandemic restrictions are lifted, new bike racks for those taking part or attending games and redoing entranceways and gates.

If COVID-19 restrictions allow, a restroom will be placed at the park near the ball diamond.

Work is expected to start this month.
