The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) announced today that the Town of Espanola will transition from being policed by the Espanola Police Service to the OPP commencing Oct. 11, 2018 at 6 p.m.

Following the Town of Espanola's request for a costing and subsequent acceptance of the OPP Contract Proposal, the Ontario Civilian Police Commission (OCPC) approved the disbandment of the Espanola Police Service on Aug. 30, 2018.

As part of the transition to the OPP, the current Espanola Police Service facility located at 76 Centre St., will be temporarily closed between Oct. 11 and Nov. 9, 2018 while undergoing renovations. These renovations are required to allow the OPP to better serve the residents of Espanola.

During this initial four-week transition period (Oct. 11 to Nov. 9, 2018), Espanola residents may contact the OPP's Espanola satellite detachment at (705) 869-1211 for service.

Further transition details will be provided to the residents of Espanola by both the Town of Espanola and the OPP as Oct. 11 approaches.

The OPP looks forward to a positive working relationship with the Town of Espanola and its residents.
