On Saturday, residents in the Elliot Lake and surrounding area will be treated to the ninth annual Arts on the Trail, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This year, three locations have been selected to play host to colourful arts and entertainment: Lester B. Pearson Civic Center, Collins Hall and Camp Thompson. Also, a total of 22 artists will be displaying their art across the city.

Local artist Kevin Clancy has created designs for the front and the back of Adirondack chairs, and the public can assist him with filling in the colours. This event will take place at Collins Hall. Once the chairs are completed, they will be waterproofed as well as placed around Elliot Lake for the public to use. The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is the sponsor for this event.

This year, artists for the show are coming from Elliot Lake, the North Shore, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, St. Joseph’s Island and some as far as Southern Ontario.

The event is sponsored by SooToday.com, ElliotLakeToday.com's sister site.

The Lester B. Pearson Civic Center will host artists Lisa MacDonald-Waite, Paula Walsh, Zoe McDougall, Carl Hanninen and Johanna Westby. Also, the studios at the Civic Center will be open for the public to visit. Local artists will also be doing demonstrations of their work.

Collins Hall will play host to artists Sheila Currie, Jim and Joanie Lindamood, Shirley Valeriote, JoAnne Nicholls, Gwen Goulet, the Loomadicts — which is made up of artists Jacqui Grummett and Gail Skingley — as well as the group Off the Wall Sister — artists Susan Krupp and Christine Scott.

In addition to the artists, Collins Hall will also be displaying a youth exhibit.

Two recent fine arts graduates will be in attendance: Brittany Sheridan, who graduated from the Haliburton School of Art and Design, as well as Curtis Brownell, who graduated from the Cambrian College Fine Arts Program.

Some artwork from students from local schools will also be on display for the public to enjoy.

Artists at Camp Thompson will be Carmen Sims, Zoey Wood-Salomon, Kathleen Parr, Kim McHale and Brittany MacLean.

The displayed art will come in different forms, such as acrylic, watercolour and oil paintings, photography, jewellery, clothing, wood carvings, fibre, quills, etched glass, stained glass, pottery and much more. The art will be also be for sale.

To continue celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday, the Welcome Center will remain open all day for the public who are interested in purchasing Canada 150 T-shirts and pins and ordering items such as Elliot Lake jackets and polo shirts.

To help the public keep tabs on the artists and where they are located, passports are available to be picked up at any of the three locations to obtain a chance to win a $25 gift certificate from the Gallery at the center in the Lester B. Pearson Center.
