Arts on the Trail tops the yearly culture schedule again this year in Elliot Lake on.the final Saturday of September, now in its eleventh year, at four separate venues.

Artists from Elliot Lake, the North Shore, Sault Ste. Marie, St. Joseph Island and Sudbury will participate in the annual show and celebration of arts and artists on Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Kate Matuszewski, City of Elliot Lake Coordinator of Arts and Culture says there is a full range of artwork at Arts on.the Trail, involving 35 artists and artisans working in multiple media. Seven of these artists were not involved in last year's show.

Included are painters, creators in acrylics, photography, wood working, woodcarving and painting, pottery, illustration, metal embossing, fibres and quilting, stonework, wood turning, jewelry, weaving, MDF relief paintings, needle felted sculptures and so on.

Five of the artists will present their creations at the Ellkot Lake Municipal Airport, south of the city centre on Highway 108. Seven others will camp out at rustic Camp Thompson, 10 kilometres north of Elliot Lake, and four more will be at beautiful Dunlop Lake Lodge, about 2 kilometres further north, to display their works.

The main group will be housed at Collins Hall on Hillside North, downtown. There, 14 of the north's most accomplished creators of art will be on hand to show their finest creations. It's part of a self-guided tour of the four venues, set before the backdrop of our forests bursting with early fall colours. Every year more than 1,000 people make the trip to see it.

Matuszewski said the City has created a Passport to Art Program which you can have stamped at each of the venues to be collected at the end of your trek, and then placed in a draw to win a piece of art from one of the participating artists.

She said it usually takes a whole day to visit all the sites but it's worth it since the City provides live music and food offerings, as well, at each stop. Visitors to Arts on.the Trail are invited to participate in their own way by contributing some of their own momentos for the ongoing community project, HeART of the Community. Everyone's treasures will be collected to become part of a mosaic which will be displayed at a future date.

Please come to Collins Hall to register where you can make a $10 deposit, refundable at the end of the ride. Deposits must be received by 3:00 pm. on Saturday Sept. 28, the day of the show.
