Elliot Lake artists are hosting their annual Christmas Sale and Art Show this Friday and Saturday.

The annual sale features 23 local artists displaying and selling their creations. The show will be at the Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre and will run this Friday, Nov. 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The show, which began in 1975, is hosted by the local Arts Club.

Visitors can see a wide range of art including pottery, weaving, stained glass, copper enamelling, printmaking, metal embossing, painting and jewellery, said organizer JoAnne Nicholls who has been organizing the event since 2014.

“This event is very important to the artists and the Arts Club and allows artists to showcase their work,” Nicholls said. “It gives the artists great pride and pleasure to see and hear that their creations are appreciated and valued by others in the community. The feedback that the artists receive from the public is heartwarming and invaluable.”

The event is also a major fundraiser for the Arts Club.

“The purchase of artwork allows the artists to purchase more materials so that they can continue to create,” Nicholls added.

This year the show will feature artists in the main lobby of the Civic Centre and what is known as the 50s room adjacent to the art gallery on the main floor.

“It helps to promote the arts in the community,” Nicholls said.
