Active COVID case count rises to 330 in Algoma following 40 new cases in Sault area

Of the new cases 19 were infected through close contact with a confirmed case and the source of infection for eight others is not known

Algoma Public Health is reporting 40 new COVID-19 cases in the Algoma region, all in the Sault Ste. Marie area.

The new cases bring the number of active cases in Algoma to 330 as of 5:15 p.m. Sunday.

There are currently 15 hospitalizations in the region.

Of the newly-reported cases, 19 individuals were infected through close contact with confirmed cases and eight have an unknown source of infection at this time, meaning the individual did not have any recent international travel or close contact with a confirmed case.

APH is reporting that 13 others are still being investigated to determine the source of their infection at this time. 

Regions in Algoma that have reported COVID-19 cases in the past 14 days include the Sault Ste. Marie area and central and east Algoma.
