Blind River Mayor Sally Hagman is inviting people to attend the town’s Winter Carnival set for this weekend, Feb. 22 to 24.

It is the 50th anniversary for the community carnival with plans for a myriad of events. Events kick-off at the curling club on Friday with a Family Fun Friday where families can take part in classes to introduce young people to the sport.

“While we continue to be under a winter blanket of snow and cold temperatures, this week promises to be one of fun and excitement of Blind River residents and alumni as it’s Winter Carnival Week,” the mayor told council at its meeting Monday evening. “Activities will be taking place at the Curling Club, the Blind River Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Library, Community Centre, the river with a Lawson’s Kids Fish Derby, the Alain Bray Auditorium and the Blind River Cross Country Ski Club.”

“There are a lot of events, both free and at a minimal charge, so come out and defy Mother Nature by participating in some great winter fun. I would encourage everyone to either go on line to the Town of Blind River website at www.blindriver.ca or pick up a brochure at any of the shops, the library, town hall or arena. This brochure will be your ‘go to place’ for weekend fun.”

“Special thanks to our Community Engagement Coordinator, Tammy Olsen, the Festivals Committee and all our Service Organizations for making Blind River’s Winter Carnival come to fruition.”
