New billiard place, eatery, bar now open in downtown Elliot Lake (3 photos)

Doors opened Monday at the locally owned and operated Clean Break Bar on Philip Walk, the new home of 8-Ball League

It's been a long-held dream for Elliot Lake's Joanna and Darin Moggy.

The husband and wife team has been planning for years to get into the hospitality field, with two decades of experience at hosting billiards. They've always wanted to do it at home.

Now the dream is in their grasp as the doors opened Monday afternoon at the Clean Break Bar at 20 Philip Walk.

Joanna perfected her bartending skills at Elliot Lake's Moose Family Centre where the 8-Ball League had been headquartered since 2017. But it turned out the Moose Centre was unable to accommodate a billiards league, ongoing.

Earlier this year, the couple located a downtown storefront suitable for their vision of a friendly meeting place. That's when renovations began.

They wanted to make sure they had a space that could accommodate enough pool tables and seating to support the Elliot Lake House 8-Ball Pool League on site.

Since then they've been working on their liquor license as granted by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). It gives them the agency's blessings to open the combo eating place, billiard facility and bar, in the heart of downtown.

The Clean Break Bar has plenty of large screens for viewing televised sporting events, as well. The couple promises great service at good prices at a place to meet people.

Although COVID-19 pandemic protocols place strict limits on occupancy and social distancing in the establishment, Joanna Moggy insists this is the right time for a new business start in Elliot Lake.

She says there's a need in Elliot Lake for a great place for people to meet, relax, recreate, eat and drink, on Philip Walk.

Along the way, start-up funding was secured and the Moggys are looking forward to having Mayor Dan Marchisella and ELNOS General Manager William Elliott on hand for the official ribbon-cutting, soon to be announced
