Following Friday's announcement from the Algoma Health Unit that an Elliot Lake woman is the seventh confirmed COVID case and the second in Elliot Lake, the Elliot Lake Family Health Team (ELFHT) issued a statement.

It was sent out by Nancy Ewen, ELFHT executive director. She wrote, "The Elliot Lake Family Health Team has received confirmation today of the seventh Algoma resident, our second local resident, to test positive for COVID-19."

"This individual travelled internationally and has been self-isolating since returning to our community March 23, 2020. All residents 70 years and older and those immunocompromised or living with chronic disease should not leave their homes," she continued.

"You are encouraged to enlist the assistance from the city’s Age Friendly Task Force that can help deliver essentials such as groceries and personal hygiene products. More information is available at the city’s COVID-19 webpage."

"City residents are also encouraged to phone the Family Health Team at 705-461-8882 if they have symptoms in order to be assessed appropriately. Our COVID-19 Assessment Centre is operational. Please do not visit the Emergency Department (at Elliot Lake St. Joseph's General Hospital) or call 911 unless you are experiencing a medical emergency."

"We continue to work closely with Algoma Public Health and St. Joseph’s General Hospital to inform and reassure our community that we are working together to manage each instance in a timely and thorough manner. Our goal is community safety. Stay home and stay safe."
