SUDBURY - Yesterday, the Ontario government reported that Pius XII Catholic Elementary School in Sudbury has two student COVID-19 cases

But the Sudbury Catholic District School Board said those cases were actually reported in error.

Nicole Bédard, superintendent of school effectiveness with the board, explained that a parent reported to the principal that two students tested positive for COVID-19 over the holidays. Those children weren’t at school when they tested positive, and still aren’t in class.

“The principals have to complete this COVID reporting every day, and she (the principal of Pius XII) did so in error,” Bédard said.

The board has also notified the province of the error, so the cases should be removed from the provincial website dedicated to schools with recent COVID-19 cases.

“We’re going to make a decision about a letter to parents, or maybe just a communication through social media, (saying) that public health has not confirmed any school-related COVID cases at Pius XII,” said the superintendent.

When the two cases at Pius XII were (erroneously) reported on the Ontario government website Tuesday, the news started making the rounds on social media.

“And we’re just trying to respond, and dealing with the phone calls as they’re coming in,” Bédard said.
