The City of Elliot Lake is offering deferrals for interest on balances owed for city property tax along with water and sewer accounts.

In a written statement to ElliotLakeToday, Elliot Lake CAO Daniel Gagnon said, "As of March 16, 2020, the City of Elliot Lake will waive interest and penalties for taxes and water. Commercial metered water was due on March 23, 2020; penalties or interest have not been applied."

"The first instalment of municipal taxes is due April 4, 2020; any late payments will not be subject to penalties or interest. The city would like to remind all residents that payment can be made via cheque in the city drop box or regular mail, online banking, tele-banking, or pre-authorized payment," he continued.

Pre-authorized payment forms are available for download on the city’s website and can be scanned and emailed or dropped in the city drop box.

Gagnon said that once more is known about how long COVID-19 measures will be in place, city staff will work with residents and businesses to develop payment plans.

He added that the city will return your call or email about payments as soon as possible, bearing in mind that Elliot Lake has a number of employees working remotely.
