The City of Elliot Lake's Manager of Economic Development, Ashten Vlahovich, spelled out the $800,000 stakes for the City to get into the chase for tenants at new industrial lot spaces planned for city-owned land.

She made her pitch to Elliot Lake City Council at its virtual meeting Monday night.

After their questions were answered, council members voted unanimously in favour of the plan that would see the City make applications to funding agencies FEDNOR and NOHFC for the Fox Drive industrial park servicing project. The estimated total project cost is $800,000.

The potential per acre price for serviced Fox Drive lots is $203,750. With funding from senior governments, the potential profit from land sales there is $120,000. Fox Drive will provide up to nine serviced lots. Installation of servicing will be financed by the City from this year's Capital Budget.

As well, staff will issue a request for proposals (RFP) for consulting services for a site development plan on a future industrial park at Elliot Lake Airport. The City wants a lot plan and cost estimates at the airport. The area being considered covers 42 acres of airport land.

That will be financed through the Investment Readiness Project section of this year's Capital Budget. An anchor tenant is required to obtain provincial and federal funding eligibility at each location.

Staff said it would not be advisable to have files for both industrial sites open at the same time. Among other things, they would potentially be competing for the same anchor tenants.
