The Ford government announced June 11 it will permit the province's long term care facilities to re-start resident visits, providing the homes remain COVID-19 free.

None of Elliot Lake's three long term care homes has reported any COVID-19 cases to date.

At Hillside Park Residence on Mississauga Drive, Director Alberta Jones said they have restarted visiting, but the home's doors will remain closed to the public.

"One person will be allowed to visit indoors in a designated area for half an hour visit, once a week Two people will be allowed for an outdoor visit, once a week," said Jones.

"Families must call for an appointment. The visiting area will be cleaned and disinfected between each visit. Please do not arrive until 5 minutes before your appointment."

She continued, "Visitors must pass the screening test and wear a face covering at all times during visits. Visitors must follow the physical distancing guidelines. Otherwise, our Resident must be placed in isolation for 14 days and another covid-19 test completed."

At St Joseph's General Hospital, which operates the adjacent St. Joseph's Manor on Spine Road, Hospital CEO Pierre Ozolins said, "Yes, we have been (allowing visiting) for about a week now. Families have been notified and visits are made by appointment only. Families have been given specific details "

At Huron Lodge on Manitoba Road, CEO Norman Mann told ElliotLakeToday, "We continue to allow outside supervised visits as was the first step from the province.  At this point, we will continue with this method until we have set up additional protocols for visits within the facility."

"We ask that anyone interested in visiting the Residents of Huron Lodge to please contact us directly for further information."
