Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit, in partnership with investigators from the Toronto Police Service and Peel Regional Police, have identified and charged a 38-year-old woman in addition to a 56-year-old man following 11 armed robberies in the Greater Toronto Area.

On Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019, shortly after 4 p.m., police were called to a bank located in the area of Yonge Street and Davis Drive for a report of a robbery.

When officers arrived they found employees in the bank who were not physically injured. Investigators believe that a man entered the bank and approached a teller. He was armed with a rifle and made a demand for cash.

Investigators determined that this suspect matched the description of a suspect wanted for similar incidents that had occurred in the city of Toronto, the region of Peel and the town of Newmarket where four banks, three pharmacies, two gas stations, a hair salon and a fast-food restaurant had been robbed.

On Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, investigators located the suspect in the City of Toronto and he was placed under arrest. The pellet rifle that was used in the robberies was also located.

In several of the incidents, investigators discovered that the suspect fled in a vehicle being driven by a female suspect. She has been identified and is facing charges.

Charged is Anna Maria Wywail, 38, Town of Newmarket with:

  • Robbery with a firearm x11

and Alastair Godbold, 56, Town of Newmarket with:

  • Robbery with a firearm x11
  • Disguise with intent x10

He will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket again on Oct. 4, 2019.
