WATCH: Province plans to spend an extra $150M on housing, shelters

Ford said the money can be used by municipalities to purchase new facilities, renovate, prepare for emergencies

Update:

Premier Doug Ford announced today that the Ontario government will be doubling their Social Services Relief Fund to improve homeless shelters and create opportunities for long-term care housing.

He said the PC government will be investing $150 million into the fund.

The funding is meant to help municipalities renovate shelters, purchase new facilities, and prepare for emergencies. Additionally, the funding should support urban Indigenous community partners develop long-term housing solutions.

The announcement comes days after the Progressive Conservative government said they were having “serious discussions” about moving to the next stage of reopening the economy.

Premier Doug Ford will be joined by Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, to make the announcement.
