Dozens of homes under construction in the area of Vellore Village in Vaughan were on fire April 12.

A massive fire is burning in a residential subdivision under construction in the Woodbridge area of Vaughan this afternoon.

The blaze is in the area of Pine Valley Drive and Teston Road, York Regional Police said at 1:50 p.m. on April 12.

Roads are closed in the area, including Pine Valley, Ballantyne Boulevard, and parts of Teston.

Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service said it is responding to "multiple fires" and is asking people to avoid the area as crews respond.

There are no reports of injuries or deaths at this time.

Huge plumes of black smoke can be seen in the sky from across Vaughan and bordering highways.

A video shared on Twitter shows flames and smoke coming from houses in the area. The person who posted said the homes are new builds and that a nearby forested area is also on fire.
