Blind River has extended its nomination deadline after nominations failed to fill all council seats.

Nominations for the Oct. 24 municipal election closed on Friday and a new deadline of Aug. 24 has been set after the number of nominations was short of the number of council seats available.

The same applies to the three French school board trustee seats at Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l’Ontario  and Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario.

Nominations will also continue to be accepted for the Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board trustee spot.

Nominations are in for the trustee on the Algoma District School Board from papers filed by Debbie Shamas and Amber Brown.

Mayor Sally Hagman was acclaimed for a second term. The mayor declined to comment on her plans for the new four-year term at this time.

Among the repeat councillors acclaimed for the upcoming term are Jim Dunbar, Jennifer Posteraro, Betty Ann Dunbar and Paula Summers while newcomer Joe Connell is a newly acclaimed council member, leaving the one seat open for nominations.

Councillor Steven Wells and Councillor HP Roy did not put forward their nomination papers. Councillor Wells served on council for eight years and Councillor Roy served on council for 16 years.

The new deadline for nomination papers is 2 p.m. on Aug. 24 and can be filed at the municipal office or online.
